Why Choose Us?

Because we’re a small firm that cares and we can give you the highest standard of advice and support, at this difficult time. We give solicitor attention to all of our cases and do NOT delegate to junior staff, para-legals or trainee solicitors. (We don't have any!)

I qualified as a solicitor in 1984 and I am an Accredited Specialist in child law. (One of only 14 in Scotland) I was instrumental in setting up the Scottish Association of Children's Curators, a body designed to represent the interests of children in care proceedings, replaced by the Children’s Hearing Practitioners Group  of which I am treasurer. I’m qualified as a Solicitor Advocate which means I’m authorised to represent clients in the Court of Session in Edinburgh. I’ve been asked to provide expert opinions by other firms of solicitors and feel able to say that I’m recognised by my peers as an expert in this area of law.

My colleague Karen Irvine used to be an accountant. As a lawyer, she’s highly skilled in seeking out what needs to be taken into account in relation to the financial settlements of divorce. She specializes in the financial aspects of divorces.

Both Karen and I are members of the The Family Law Association

Karen qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and has worked with various law firms during her career.

The complexity and distress of a divorce means that you need a very experienced and highly motivated solicitor to help you through this time. We provide a professional yet informal atmosphere in which to deal with your case. You’re always welcome to meet with us at our offices. Appointments can be arranged at very short notice, although we also find that a great deal can be done from the comfort of your home. At times like this it can be difficult to get child care organised to allow meetings with lawyers etc. We can always deal with matters online, by phone, e-mail and in the future, we hope, by video conferencing.

Every client is an individual and we understand that we really need to get to know you if we’re going to succeed in delivering the result you need from your divorce proceedings.

We don’t deal with our clients by means of automated systems or templates. We use I.T. to gain even more contact and communication between us. At your first meeting with us, we’ll even assess whether you really need a lawyer at that stage,  and whether that lawyer should be us. We’ll involve you in the process as much as possible with frequent case updates and explanations about what’s going on in your case. You’ll always get straight answers from us.

It doesn’t necessarily matter who made the decision to break up. Breaking up is almost always going to be hard, even if the decision is mutual. So far as the legal process is involved, we at xn--80abg7ahj4a.xn--j1adp.xn--p1acf will reduce the stress, and ensure you’re  dealt with in a fair manner.
